My insight on Assassin's Creed 3 ***MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS***

As most of you know, Assassins Creed 3 is set in the time of the American revolution, the main character is Connor (or his native American name, Ratonhnhaké:ton, which I would not recomend trying to pronounce). Connor sets out on some typical revenge based quest that puts him at odds with his father who as you find out in the tutorial is a Templar (the rivals of the assassins), which is sure to result in a bit of drama later on in the game. I had no trouble getting into the story line. However I do find the overlying business with the animus to be very annoying, nothing can break the fourth wall like being pulled out of the 18th century and into the shoes of some dude named Desmond. I would prefer if in the next Assassins Creed game the makers drop the whole story with the animus and space gods and whatnot and go back to the basics of being a member of an order of assassins who get to use cool weapons and gadgets viciously maim their enemies. I dont want to say to much about the plot in or outside the animus and if you havent played the game and want to know more about the story then I suggest you buy the game rather than reading my rubbish blog and fantasising about playing it...

For those who have played Assassins Creed 3 or any of the previous games should know that the games are all about their combat system, not so much about anything else. This is all well and good until you get over the amazing game-play and are left climbing up view points and completing annoying side-missions for God knows how long, I find that at this point I am rapidly losing the will to live. There are however many good aspects of AC3 such as the all new naval battles which I very much enjoyed, nothing like getting blown to pieces by the British.

All in all the game is up to scratch in my opinion. Graphics are realistic, gameplay is pretty fluent and easy to get the hang of, not to mention the upgrading system and the building of your own town, unfortunately you have to complete many side quests for this to come about but it all seems worth it in the end. I'd say this game is a solid 8 out of 10, well done to the game makers, they managed to keep me banished in my room until I completed it when I really should have been revising for my A-Level exams. Thank you all for reading, be sure to continue reading my future rants about games if you found this to be entertaining.

  1. You do realise the animus part of the story is the MAIN part right? i dont know if you have played ac1/2/brotherhood/revelations but the animus and "space gods" as you put it are the main selling point of the game, i buy the next game to see what desmond finds out from the creators (not space gods, just gods.) about the beginning of the earth etc. As for 'their combat system' being the key to these games ... im sorry are you sure you can call yourself a gamer? The key of the ac games is 1) the unbelievably sellable storyline 2) The uniqueness of their genre 3) the size and quality of the environment and background 4) the optional 'minigame' and sidequest features for those wanting to dig into the lore. Can not call yourself a gamer. Welcome to the internet.

  2. Thank you for the welcome to the internet. I have played the other games my friend, and I tell you that I personally did not enjoy the business with the animus. The space gods ruined the feel of the game for me and I would have preferred that the game was in the time period that it was meant to be set in, but instead it switches between modern and past events, which bugs me. I buy the games because of the role Desmond is occupying when he enters the animus, not to play as Desmond himself and find out more about his story, I rapidly lost all interest in anything outside of the animus after the first game. I'm not saying you have to agree with me on the matter of the space gods but appreciate that I have my own opinion. Thank you for the comment as I do like to hear the opinion of my fellow internet users.
